Little girl mutilated in horrific factory accident
Lucy Hoult was a 11 year old girl living in lower Manhattan. She was killed in an horrific incident. Conveyor Belts carry large objects through the factory that are too big for the children workers to move. A few grown men would most likely be able to move them no problem, but the factory (like many others) hires children because they work for much less. The conveyor belt elevates roughly 12 feet in the air, where the large objects sit, and are transported. It is not sure what exactly happened, but a mistake was made when loading the object onto the machine ( 13 year old Tommy Wilson is reported to have done it) and the large object fell off right when poor Lucy was walking by and squashed her like a bug. " the bones of her arms, legs, thighs, etc. successively snapped and crushed" (Walton) Perhaps if it wasn't so dark in the factory little Lucy would have been able to move out of the way, or Tommy would have loaded it correctly. Lucy was one of six children and did not have a father. Her mother Samantha Hoult is unemployed and takes care of the younger children, while the older ones work to keep the family afloat. Lucy lived in a small house with her family, where they only had two rooms for seven people. Two days ago Lucy went to her normal job where she worked ten hours a day and six days a week in a car factory.(Walter Trattner)

New Inventions Changing The World
Blow out those candles, your not going to need them anymore. Thomas Edison has done it again, after recently inventing the
phonograph he has created something that will change the way mankind will live forever; he has created the light bulb. The light bulb is a glass container that projects light. Much like a candle, but it uses electricity instead of fire, thus allowing light for a much longer period of time. This invention is truly revolutionary. In the near future everyone will have these in their house, and it will light up the world. In other new's Jan Ernst Matzeliger has just invented the automatic shoe making machine. This machine does what it sounds like, it makes shoes. Previously every shoe had to be handmade, now shoes will be made by this machine at a much faster and more efficient rate. This invention will create mass shoe production, and will make shoes much cheaper for the consumer.

Dear Editor
Dear newspaper Editor, child labor is a benefit to our society. Children are a beautiful thing. They are small and precious. By giving children an opportunity to work, it prepares them for the future and for what is to come. The kids learn the knowledge to work many machines and how they function, and they learn what it is like to have a job. It is no secret that there is a shortage of money in many families, and by allowing kids to have jobs; it creates an income for them and their family. This is a great thing and I am sure that they, and their families appreciate the opportunity’s given to them in order to raise money. Children can fit into small crevices at work and do things adults cannot do. It is truly good for everyone, and the future of our nation that children continue to help our nation.
Dear newspaper Editor, Child labor is inhuman and cruel. Not only is it dangerous, but it takes a child's ability to get a proper education. Children, some as young as 10- years old are working all day in a dangerous dark factory. The conditions are horrible, and when the children work, the work is not as thorough or done as efficiently as if an adult were doing it. Children are taking adults jobs, and getting paid far less then then an adult would be getting paid. This helps the businesses but not our economy. To receive a proper education, children must attend school. How can they go to school if they are working all day? They cannot, and they will hurt our future because they are the future. If they are un educated then our society will become uneducated. Lastly, the tasks that the children are being asked to perform are extremely dangerous for adults, let alone young kids who’s bodies are still developing. every day I read the paper about some poor child getting into a tragic accident, and how they end up losing a limb or worse. The child’s future is changed forever, and I am afraid to have a child of my own for this very reason. This needs to stop. (Walter Trattner)

The younger the tastier
This picture is of a man eating children.
It represents that the man is taking advantage of the
children, and killing them by having them work for him.

- the Industrial Revolution contributed to society in a positive way, because of the technological advances that came from it. It greatly influences how we live today yes, their was horrible parts of it, like child labor. In all the industrial revolution was changed us for the better. Because of it we live in big cities (like chicago). We have many new machines that greatly improve our lives that we wouldn't have. We even still use some of the inventions made during that time period today. Yes, child labor was a horrible thing, but because it happened many new laws were passed that insured better working conditions for everyone, an all kids must receive an education now. We have learned from the mistakes made, and the things we did right to make our country better. Without the Industrial Revolution America would be very different today, and possibly in a very bad way. So the Industrial Revolution definitely contributed to society in a positive way in the end.
